Mid May already?

According to the Donut of Misery I am 120 days into this deployment as of this writing. That’s 32% if things stay as planned.

The heat is starting to pick up here. Mid to high 90’s during the day. Balmy 80’s at night with the temp dropping just a tad right as the sun comes up. With me trying to pack on a little weight the heat is going to try and play against me. Just have to stay ahead in the calorie intake. May have to start regular workouts in the morning. Walking to the gym in the afternoon is starting to be a pain. Feels like being in an oven and it’s only going to get worse.

Looks like my R&R in July is going to be busy, which I don’t mind. At first I was just going to do the relax on the couch bit. Screw that! Pedal to the metal, balls to the walls. How I have things route and planned looks like a triangle on a map, Greensboro, Jacksonville, NC and Greenville, SC. Maybe even have a shoot or two planned. Still too early to tell. I did have my phone mailed to me so as soon as I step back on US soil the masses will know. “It’s a party y’all, we rock the mic right!”

Finding my focus and calm

That is my mission for right now.  I got so many things floating around in my head I can’t even think straight. What I want to do, where I want to go. Things of that nature. For some reason I think I’m running out of time but I have all the time in the world, believe it or not. I just need to focus on one thing and go from there.

Stay tuned

6 Mondays and a Sunday

That’s what it seems like here. The days all drag on the same. There is always work to be done being in a “war zone” so a typical work day, 0700-1630, is not feasible. I generally come in around 8 and leave work around 8 or 9. Now I am not chained to my desk the whole time. You can take breaks during the day, go eat, take care of laundry, PT, things like that. I guess their thinking is to keep people from being bored in their rooms and doing something stupid. “A bored Marine is a dangerous Marine”. Hell, that’s with anyone.

Now Sundays for certain work areas you can come in later. It’s the one day people look forward to. Sleep in, or stay up late Saturday watch movies or playing poker ;-)

Once my entire unit gets in and the old one is gone and we establish our work tempo things should even out.

Now people have been asking what they can send me. Well, besides cookies, I could use 4×6 pictures to hang at my desk and in my room. Tasteful shots (did I just say that?). Crystal Light or some other drink packs to put in the bottled water. We have a table in our building that people put the extra stuff they got in a care package for other Marines to have. We have enough books to start our own library :-)

So for right now I don’t see us needing too much right now. People still have stuff they came in country with, so when a need or request comes up I’ll be sure to put it out there. If you need to know anything specific email me at defiantusmc[AT]gmail.com

Time to get to work

Visited where I’ll be working and it’s not a bad setup.  We got a TV in there where we can watch the news and sports.  The geek in me is happy I get to sit in front of a 21 inch monitor. The little things…

Our work hours are from 0800-2130. Now before you all freak out that is not really a bad thing. Ain’t too much to do here in a sense of getting off a 5 pm, going home and chilling out.  Not like I’ll be working the whole time anyway. We have a gym in our building plus I like the people I work with so it’s not a big deal. It could be worse. I could be doing patrols :-(

Sundays are half days. You don’t have to be in till noon so that is the one day everyone looks forward to so they can sleep in.

Enough for now. Y’all be good.

Maybe a year away will do me some good…

“Haters only hate the things that they can’t get and the people they can’t be.”

I see myself more as an artist than an businessperson. I like to believe I care about what I do and am hard on myself when it comes to certain projects. Rushing my work to make a quick buck does a disservice to those that have a passion for what they do. I am always finding ways to better myself and looking for new ideas or putting a different spin on old ones. Just to wrap this up without getting to deep: Quality over Quantity

One major thing that irks me

Email and text forwards. I am down for a good joke every once in a while, don’t get me wrong. But the thing that upsets me is when you get a forward you haven’t heard from in awhile, you see their name pop up and you think “Cool, haven’t heard from them in a minute” and it’s a stupid joke that has been passed around. In the time it took them to fill the forward box with addresses to send it to would it have killed them to just write a simple “Hi”? Because sometimes a person could really use that. Just saying…
